Google is reportedly developing AI-powered chatbots based on popular celebrities and YouTube influencers, seemingly drawing inspiration from companies like Meta and startups like Character.ai, both of which offer similar services.

It remains uncertain which celebrities and influencers Google plans to partner with and whether the feature will be available to the general public soon.

According to a recent report by The Information, Google’s upcoming chatbots will be powered by its in-house large language model, Gemini. The tech giant aims to bring numerous celebrities and influencers on board and will also allow users to create their own chatbots, a feature Character.ai already offers.

However, it remains unclear which celebrities and influencers Google plans to partner with. The report mentions that a team of ten, including Ryan Germick from the Google Doodles team, is leading the project. Rumor has it that the feature will initially be available through Google Labs.

For those unfamiliar, Character.ai is a startup that allows users to create AI-powered chatbots mimicking popular celebrities. In November last year, Google was reportedly in talks to invest hundreds of millions of dollars in Character.ai.

Meta also launched a similar service last year, enabling users to interact with chatbots modeled after celebrities and influencers like Paris Hilton, Snoop Dogg, MrBeast, and Dwayne Wade. However, these chatbots adopt the personalities of fictitious characters rather than reflecting the celebrities’ actual lives.
