A few months after its global rollout, Meta announced on Monday the launch of Meta AI, powered by Llama 3, its most advanced large language model (LLM), in India. Meta platform users across the country can now access Meta AI for free in feeds, chats, and other areas across the platforms. Users can also directly access the AI chatbot on the web via meta.ai.
The tool offers text-based experiences based on Llama 2 and image generation tools powered by Llama 3.
Initially, Meta AI will be available in English. The company states that users can benefit from this new AI tool on the apps they already use. According to Meta, “Meta AI is smarter, faster, and more fun than ever before,” powered by Llama 3.
The new text-based experiences on Meta AI are powered by Llama 2, while the image generation tools utilize the latest Llama 3.
To access Meta AI on WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger, users need to update to the latest versions of these apps.
Meta has tailored its AI implementation uniquely for each platform. On WhatsApp, users can ask for activity recommendations or plan an upcoming road trip. On the web, Meta AI can assist with creating multiple-choice tests or help decorate a new place you’ve just moved into.
On Facebook, Meta AI will be accessible within the feed, enabling users to ask questions about specific posts for more insights. Similarly, Meta AI can generate images, create WhatsApp stickers, or retouch existing images.
Meta emphasizes that its AI tool has been built responsibly. The model has been trained with specific instructions to ensure it provides helpful and safe responses within its guidelines.
