This highly anticipated SU7 sedan can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in merely 2.78 seconds, according to the company’s claims.
During the launch event on Thursday, Xiaomi introduced its inaugural electric vehicle, the SU7 sedan. Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun, in a live presentation, drew direct comparisons to the Tesla Model 3 and announced that the vehicle would be available in Chinese cities by May.
Lei Jun stated, “Xiaomi is escalating its investment tenfold, beginning with the foundational development of core technologies, with an aim to craft an exceptional vehicle. With a commitment spanning 15 to 20 years, Xiaomi envisions becoming a leading player among the global top five automakers.” These comments were part of his discourse on the car’s unveiling.
The Xiaomi SU7 boasts a claimed acceleration from zero to a hundred kilometres per hour in 2.78 seconds and a top speed of 265 kilometres per hour. It features dual motors with a claimed output of 637 horsepower and 838 newton metres of peak torque. These specifications are for the top-tier model, which, similar to Tesla’s new Cybertruck, will utilize 800-volt architecture. Xiaomi asserts that the vehicle’s range will vary between 700 and 900 kilometres, depending on the chosen trim level.
The sedan measures five metres in length and two metres in width, with a three-metre wheelbase. Xiaomi highlights the vehicle’s “elegant and low stance,” which contributes to a drag coefficient of 0.195, reportedly the best in its category. Initially, during its showcase at MWC 2024 in Barcelona, Xiaomi revealed three color options for the vehicle. Today, the electronics giant expanded the palette by adding six additional colors, bringing the total to nine.
Xiaomi has emphasized several distinctive design elements of the vehicle, such as water drop headlights, halo tail lights, an active rear spoiler, a “flowing curve” design, and concealed door handles. The sedan operates on Xiaomi’s Hyper OS, a unified operating system designed to enhance integration between Xiaomi’s smartphones, tablets, home devices, and now, electric vehicles. Additionally, the car is equipped with numerous advanced features, including a wraparound cockpit with multiple screens, various driver assistance technologies, and more.
The entry-level Xiaomi SU7 is equipped with a 73.6 kWh battery, which Xiaomi claims can deliver a range of 700 kilometres. This model can reach a top speed of 210 kilometres per hour and is priced at 215,900 Chinese Yuan, approximately Rs 24,90,413. Following this is the SU7 Pro variant, featuring a 94.3 kWh battery, purportedly offering an 830-kilometre range, with a starting price of 245,900 Yuan or Rs 28,36,464.
The premium SU7 Max model is outfitted with a 101 kWh battery, which Xiaomi asserts can provide a range of nearly 900 kilometres. The pricing for this top-tier model begins at 299,900 Yuan, equivalent to around Rs 34,59,356.
