Shipping for the Humane AI Pin is set to commence in March. The company announced on Twitter last Friday that “those who placed priority orders will receive their Ai Pins first when we begin shipping in March.” Originally estimating an “early 2024” release, the screen-less wearable device, designed to serve as a smartphone alternative, is on track for its anticipated shipping date.

Humane, co-founded by former Apple employees Bethany Bongiorno and Imran Chaudhri, perceives the smartphone, still a cornerstone for their former employer, as reaching its limits. In a November press briefing, Chaudhri expressed the belief that the smartphone era has plateaued. The AI-powered wearable from Humane is seen as “a new way of thinking, a new sense of opportunity.”

Priced at $699, the Humane AI Pin distinguishes itself by lacking a traditional screen. Instead, it utilizes voice cues and a projector to display pertinent information onto the user’s hand. The founders highlight the device’s emphasis on privacy along with contextual intelligence, asserting its ability to “quickly understand what you need, connecting you to the right AI experience or service instantly.” Notably, partnerships with OpenAI, Microsoft, and Tidal grant access to what the company touts as “some of the world’s most powerful AI models and platforms.”

Under the hood, the pin is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon processor, featuring a dedicated Qualcomm AI Engine that supports its Cosmos OS software. It is available in three color options, with two of them carrying an additional $100 price tag. To access the pin’s cellular data, buyers are required to pay $24 monthly, as it operates as an MVNO (mobile virtual network operator) leveraging T-Mobile’s network.

Humane has shared that, following the March shipping date, the remaining orders will be fulfilled in the sequence they were received. Engadget has reached out to the company to inquire about the expected dispatch of current orders, and any response will be incorporated into this article.

For those interested, the Humane AI Pin is open for pre-orders on Humane’s website. The Eclipse variant (matte black on black) is priced at $699, while the Lunar (polished chrome on white) and Equinox (polished chrome on black) color options come with a higher price tag of $799.
